Pianomatic
A mechatronic screwdriver that democratizes piano tuning expertise, using acoustic sensing, real-time DSP, and haptic feedback to guide precise tuning by harmonic content rather than fundamental frequency alone.
A mechatronic screwdriver designed to democratize piano tuning expertise. The tool integrates acoustic sensing, real-time DSP analysis, and haptic feedback to guide users through precise tuning by analyzing harmonic content rather than just fundamental frequency. It accounts for piano-specific tuning theory including stretch tuning and inharmonicity, making professional-quality results accessible to trained non-experts while reducing training time from years to 10-20 hours of practice. The product was developed using a co-design approach where I visited the client to understand the tuning process and the issues they had with the current prototype. Then, we went through various rounds of ergonomic and stability testing to help them advance the prototype.\
Note #1 : The project is patented and any further details or final outputs cannot be shared.
Note #2 : This product was a part of the "PROOFin10" service where we work with clients to transform their ideas (..or claude chats) into actual physical products in 3 weeks with under €10k of client investment. The final outputs are website, functional and scalable physical product, and pitch deck.
